An Unexpected Path to a Psychic, Guided by a Single Phone Call
Watch Interview Video
In her mid-20s, after quitting her customer service job, she suffered from unexplained headaches. A sudden call from a senior she disliked led her to a place where she was told, 'If you hadn't come today, you would have died,' and the pain disappeared. Since then, she began to offer advice to friends as if guided, leading her to this profession.
Q&A
Interview
Please tell us your current occupation.
In English, my occupation is called 'spiritual', and in Japanese, it's called a 'psychic' or 'clairvoyant'. I think it's easier for everyone to understand if I use the term 'fortune teller'. Although I'm not a fortune teller, I use inspiration and intuition to predict or miss the troubles and things people want to know about, without using birth dates or tools, over the phone or in person. In my case, I also provide advice and guidance.
Please tell us the flow of in-person appraisals.
In person, I ask for your name. I have advice, so depending on the generation, the advice changes for things like infidelity, love, marriage, or job change, so I ask for your age. After you write it down on paper, when I hold my right hand over it, various images appear, and I convey them to you.
In the case of a phone call, what can you see about the caller or the other person?
For example, love is the most common, but things like infidelity or marriage, since 80-90% are women, there are many customers for love-related matters. I can hear things like the boyfriend's or one-sided love's (let's call him a boyfriend) mannerisms, way of speaking, intonation, etc. First, if it's a voice. In terms of visuals, out of 10 people, if I don't focus, the caller's appearance comes into view. Are they fair-skinned? Is their hair one length and jet black? There are times when something appears before the caller says, 'I've been gaining weight lately', other than that question. Like, 'Is your skin rough?' or 'Do you have a pimple near your chin?' or 'Do you have a bald spot the size of a 500 yen coin?' Things like that happen.
What was the turning point that led you to this job?
In my life, I've never had any training to be called a psychic by society. However, as many people may have heard, there was a time when I thought, 'I'm going to die'. Before I realized I had this power and before I ended up in this job, there was a time when I thought, 'Ah, I'm going to die'. I was sleeping at home when the bubble burst, and I had just quit my 10-year job in the service industry. I was around 26 or 27, and the back of my left head hurt so much, it was heavy. It was a heaviness beyond human comprehension. I went to an orthopedic surgeon, then to a chiropractor, then to a masseuse, but nothing helped. I got medicine, but it didn't get any better. At that time, the phone rang. Without saying anything, my former senior, who I didn't like, who was about 15 years older, around 40 years old, said, 'Why don't you try going to Setagaya?' He didn't call himself a psychic, but he suddenly called and said, 'Your life will change, why don't you try going?' I wondered what he was talking about. 'It costs 30,000 yen, but why don't you come?' With just those words, I grabbed 30,000 yen from the drawer and went. There, I met a man who later became my mentor. Without saying anything, I wrote my name down, and I had some human relationships that I wanted to sort out in a psychic way. There were hits and misses, but after seeing me, he said, 'Wait a minute, something's on you'. I really hadn't said anything. He brought a fly swatter and, in a different room, said, 'Here, here' and hit the back of my left head hard. Then he said, 'If you hadn't come here today, you would have died'. When I asked, 'How do you know?', he said, 'I know'. From then on, I got better. I was surprised. From then on, there were many wedding invitations, and around the same time, my classmates were of marriageable age, and I was often invited to second parties or new homes, and they said things like, 'My husband is on a business trip today' or 'It's late, so come and stay'. I had a lot of friends. At that time, I received a lot of consultations from my friends. It was as if I was guided to this job. And he said, 'You're often right, so why don't you put up a sign?'. Since IT wasn't as prevalent as it is now, in the late 1990s, I recruited through a magazine published by Recruit. I advertised at home for two hours, or rather, an average of two hours, but no matter how long I talked, it was only 3,000 yen. People came, brought their mothers, and became repeat customers, and I was surprised.
What kind of consultations do you receive the most?
Mostly love. Can I get married? or My husband and I aren't getting along, or I want my one-sided love to be fulfilled, or revival love, which means getting back together after breaking up, or I'm completely single, when will I get a boyfriend? or I want to be in love, but not married. A boyfriend, that is, a lover. Love doesn't equal that, can I marry my current boyfriend? The biggest need is love, after all.
Do you also perform prayers and matchmaking?
People who like spiritual things come. Some people don't believe in or dislike spiritual things, but I believe that people who believe in and like spiritual things come, so for example, there is a god who is strong in love, or try visiting a shrine, or matchmaking, or a god who cuts ties. What I absolutely don't do is give advice that will make people unhappy. I'm also a prayer master, so prayers are actually included, but matchmaking. Well, how should I put it? If your crush has a boyfriend or girlfriend, I don't cut ties with his or her girlfriend, even though some people do it as a business, but I don't do it. Instead, in the form of matchmaking, let's enhance your attractiveness, and I also do prayers. Because, after all, there is cause and effect. You shouldn't call for someone else's misfortune. I will introduce you to a shrine to enhance your attractiveness and connect you with your crush. After the phone or in-person appraisal is over, I perform small prayers.
Where do you find fulfillment in this job?
It might sound like I'm showing off, but since spiritual things can't be seen, the connection with people is made through words, and as a result, a circle is formed. I'm very happy that it takes the form of a bond. While living in this land, I'm very happy to be connected by a single phone call or in person with people from Hokkaido, Okinawa, or Kyushu. And they come to me from afar.
Are there any hardships in this job?
This is a spiritual obstacle that makes me think I'm going to die. It's an occult-like story, and I'm sorry. I'm still in the middle of getting rid of the spiritual obstacle. It's 2026 now. I've been bedridden since the end of 2021. I'm exhausted. To put it in a strange way, there's a rope here, or a rope is fine, and there's a pickle stone at the end of it, and my feet become heavy and painful. It's been four years. It's the second time. I sleep from morning to night. I'm just sleepy. When it's over, the stage of my life changes. Now I've finally arrived here from my home, and I finally feel like I've arrived, like I did a year ago. I probably couldn't even put on makeup. I call it a spiritual obstacle, but it's an obstacle, a spiritual obstacle from a psychic. 'You' comes from above, and 'Just lie down and sleep' is what I hear. Around 2008, 9, 10, 11, I was bedridden and couldn't work, and I was wondering what to do about the rent, utilities, and food for my office, but by chance, when I saw a nurse, a registered nurse who was a music friend, from there, by word of mouth, customers came even while I was sleeping, at that time. Yes, while sleeping. When I'm appraising, it doesn't matter if I'm dirty, so I'm sorry, but I dress comfortably and talk on the phone. It was a bit difficult to do it in person.
What kind of training do you have as a psychic?
If I call myself a psychic, I do have training. What does that mean? For example, it's directly related to prayers, but I perform Goma, a fire ritual, for myself at the same temple. Goma is usually only performed at esoteric Buddhist temples, so I light a fire and wish for everyone's happiness, which is a bit too showy. It's a bit too showy to say that I wish for everyone's happiness, but it's the same. After all, cause and effect means that other people's happiness equals mine. I think I shouldn't be selfish. In other words, I wish for my work to prosper and for everyone to be happy. Well, since the corona, I've been dizzy from spiritual obstacles, so I'm thinking I should go soon. And visiting graves. There's one in Tokyo. If you're doing this as your main job, you'll naturally go, right?
How do you support your clients?
From the heart. I tell them something that has a basis, even though it can't be seen, and give them hope, or rather, 'It's okay'. Like, 'Am I that good?' or 'Am I like that?'. Even if you're poor now and have a boyfriend, 'You'll be successful, you have that kind of star', it's not a lie. Because, without hearing from the client, within what I saw, for example, this person's family isn't a plumber, or he's a salaryman now, but he's supposed to take over the family business, or he has two brothers, but he's the second son, so the first son can't be relied upon, right? He ran away, right? Things like that. Parts like 'How do you know?' or 'I haven't heard my boyfriend say that' or 'Then let's ask him, if it's not true, it's not true', I say. In that way, if being poor and not being able to get married is a money issue, I say that. But if the client says, 'He has a girlfriend now, a boyfriend', I say, 'He'll break up, he's not getting along, after all, he said he hasn't seen her in about a month', I also said that. In that way, I provide the root truth of the parts that the client doesn't realize, doesn't understand, and doesn't have information about. Even though it may be a hit or miss, it becomes a hit when that part is provided, and the part that I saw is provided, like 'It's not okay, it's not okay for about half a year, it's not okay when the rainy season is over' or 'You can go to the next fireworks festival', or something like that. I don't know if that's becoming like a counselor, but for a doctor, it's like medicine. After all, the person himself, not by effort, but by something not so difficult, life doesn't move without results, neither marriage nor work. It's too much to call it effort. So, in that sense, please try to move yourself and realize it.
Can you see yourself?
I thought I couldn't see myself at all for a long time, about 20 years ago. But two of my workmates told me, 'You can see yourself, so you can see other people'. I think it's okay to have parts that you can't see. If you could see everything, you would have no friends and no cuteness. People have flaws, so 'Oh, that's right, I'm sorry', it's okay to have a playful side. Well, I'm not forgetful, but people have flaws, don't they? That's because you can't see them, isn't it? If you could see everything, you'd be perfect, wouldn't you? It's because you can't see that you can connect with people, and it's because you can't see that you can laugh at your flaws.
What would you like to say to those who aspire to this job?
It's a popular occupation. It's just that you can't earn as much as you think. To put it simply, 'Do your best', but to put it nicely, if you don't have enough space for yourself, you can't listen to other people's troubles, so please solve your own problems first, and then learn a lot and be active.
